The first step to your family vacation is to plan out a budget. Look into your finances and decide how much you will be able to save and how much you can spend. Saving money will keep you from using your credit cards and creating more debt for yourselves. Look at your spending habits and decide if there is something that you can cut down on or cut out completely to be able to add a few more dollars each month to your savings. Instead of going to a coffee shop to buy coffee on your way to work get a travel coffee cup and make your own coffee. Instead of eating lunch out everyday take your lunch to work. These few small steps can really begin to add to the money that you have for savings.
The second step is to make sure that you discipline yourself to keep your money in your savings account. Many of us are spenders. If we have even one dollar we being to think of all the ways that we can spend that dollar. Make a promise to yourself that once you have the money in the savings account that you will leave it in there. For those of you that have direct deposit find out from your work if you can directly deposit some of your money into your savings. That way you don’t have to actually see the money going into the account and are less likely to want to spend it.
We all have things in our house that we don’t necessarily have room for or want to get rid of. Our basements and garages are full of stuff that we think to ourselves I should just sell that and get rid of it. However who has the time to organize a garage sale and then hope that there is nice weather and that people turn out for it. Who has the time to sit there for an entire day? Not many people have that kind of time anymore. Instead of a garage sale try selling your things online. It may take you a few minutes to set up an account and post the information about the item that you are selling but compared to the time that it takes to host a garage sale it is minimal. They say that one mans junk is another mans treasure. So even if you think that no one will want to buy it you may be pleasantly surprised that there are people out there looking for what you have to sell.
Lastly look for discounts and travel packages for your family vacation. Some places offer a discount when you book things as a package. Some travel destinations offer a discount on their slower times of the year. Search online for discount coupons for the area that you want to travel to. You may be able to find discounts on dining, entertainment, or even your hotel.
