Building up a Personal Collection

Just like building up a library of books, starting to collect movie stuff when you don’t have anything yet can seem like a daunting task and it can seem difficult to know where to even begin. The first step is simply to examine what the purpose of this collection will be. If it is meant to be an exhaustive collection of all of the masterpieces of cinema, then you will need some time and money to acquire those, but you can easily find lists online or in books that will give plenty of recommendations.

Many people just want a personal collection of movie stuff, however, that showcases their particular tastes, and that are movies that they will want to watch more than once or share with others. Some people are more partial to comedies, and other to action films. This will all depend on the taste of the individual. Buying movies for the household can be a more complicated task, if you have to cover all the tastes of the whole family. In fact, many people start building a real collection when they have children, because children have a tendency to want to watch the same movie over and over again.

In order to not break the bank, you may want to look for websites that specifically sell movie stuff to purchase or download your DVD’s from. These might have discounts if you order more than one, or there might be some sort of club membership where you can choose a certain number of films each month for purchase under a flat fee. There are plenty of sites that also sell used movies, such as the auction sites or Amazon, for example. With these, the danger would be that the DVD could be scratched, so be sure to ask about the condition ahead of time and choose sellers with positive feedback.

Another way to get into the world of movie stuff without spending loads of money would be to find free downloads of the movies you are trying to collect. Make sure that these are authorized downloads, however, or else you are doing the movie studio no favors. Online piracy is not as big of a problem as it used to be, but it’s still out there and is something to be aware of. Being a fan means that you are helping to support the people who make the movies that you love.
