More people would most likely find success if they could stop themselves from thinking about the stupid stuff that they may have done wrong in their lifetime. Beginning to filter your thoughts and forget about the negativity of the past is the best way to start moving forward with your life in the right direction. This is of course easier said than done, and may take therapy and years of commitment. However, it seems that the most important way to get rid of these negative thoughts is simply to start making a conscious decision to do so.
Some of the most typical ways that we tend to let stupid stuff get to us is with those nagging thoughts about the day. Perhaps you said something stupid in a meeting, and think that everyone was laughing at you. Maybe you put your shirt on backwards, or dropped a bowl of soup on your clean shirt. These are all stupid little things that happen to everyone, but the most successful among us manage to laugh them off and forget about them eventually. There are a few exercises that can be repeated to help stop dwelling on these small mishaps, and move forward with confidence.
For example, no matter what kind of stupid stuff you have found yourself guilty of today, make sure to forgive yourself. Say it aloud in the mirror, and then give yourself a compliment. You could write the compliment down, starting a journal of positive things that you have done. For all of the stupid actions that a person takes, there are bound to be smart moves scattered throughout the day as well. It’s best not to forget about those. This journal, when added to every day, can then serve as a powerful testament to all of the good, positive things that you are capable of as a person. Everyone has their good points, and it’s important to remember them throughout the day.
In the end, taking this time to consciously acknowledge all of the good things you do on a daily basis will help to cancel out all of the stupid stuff. The fact is, that no one is perfect all of the time, and everyone makes mistakes. The best way to keep moving forward from these mistakes is to learn from them, and then give yourself a break. This will lead to a new cycle of positive thoughts, making life much more enjoyable overall.
