Love Stuff

There is nothing quite like falling in love. However, after falling in love, it definitely takes some work to stay there. As the euphoria of new love begins to fade, most couples find that their relationships require effort and attention. For those who are not sure how to start, there are a few things to remember to make sense of all this love stuff.

First, be thoughtful. It may sound obvious, but putting that into practice can be more of a challenge. It is vital to really know what makes the other person tick. This can be anything from favorite foods, to preferred scents, to enjoyed hobbies. To love someone, it is important to be aware of these things and acknowledge them when possible. This can be implemented in a variety of ways. It can be as simple as picking up a favorite candy bar as a surprise from the gas station or as intricate as planning a special getaway weekend to enjoy a ballgame of their favorite team.

The next tip when it comes to making all that love stuff work is to be purposeful. People like to know that they are valued, especially in a romantic relationship. No one wants to be taken for granted. So it is important to make a point to honor that special someone and not just always when it is convenient. Everyone remembers to give flowers on Valentine’s Day, so maybe pick some up at an off time just because. It may be part of the routine to make dinner every night, so one night go above and beyond and make a special dessert, too.

The last important love stuff advice to always keep in mind is to be open. This does not mean that every secret must be unveiled and that every truth must be told, but people in a committed relationship have to know how to talk things out and, more importantly, how to listen to one another. This is probably the hardest thing for most couples to get a grasp on, but it is often the one thing that can make or break a relationship. Being open can help resolve conflict and it can also help prevent it, making it the most valuable asset someone can bring to a relationship.

All in all, love takes work. Still, most people would agree that there is no greater cause worth working for.
