Self-Help For Fear And Anger: The Recovery Method

As someone new to Recovery, I was finding Dr. Low’s writings difficult to understand and the meeting to be extremely foreign until I found this book.
It explains most of the tools. The only thing missing is an index.
I have recommended it to members of my group.

Self-help for Fear and Anger is short and sweet. For those new to Recovery International it may be seen as a broad view of the lay of the land. That is helpful since Low’s writing is dense with powerful ideas and written for people in the 1940′s and 50s. For those of us who have mined the riches of Recovery for some time and at some depth it may provide a number of fresh ways of viewing basic concepts.
It is no substitute for the authoritative information found in Mental Health Through Will Training and in Manage Your Fears Manage Your Anger. It is still helpful, sprinkled with fresh verbiage, organized in a way to get the new comer comfortable with the task ahead of them.
It is a clear voice from the new century that affirms the validity of the concepts begun in the last century. It restates the fact that the Recovery Method can produce marked improvement in our mental health in short order when combined with study, practice of the method and regular attendance at traditional group meetings (or the newer venues such as phone meetings and online contact via the Recovery Forum [...] )
I will order several more copies. I will want one to be able to highlight key ideas and to add margin notes to. Other copies I will give some to family members and friends. I suspect it will help them to them better understand how I have been making such amazing change in my life. And I am sure they will pick up a few useful Recovery tools for their own use. A path to better mental health is a wonderful thing to share with others.
I seriously doubt if significant personal progress could be made by use of this single volume by itself. However it is a good way to smooth the way into Recovery International for the new person and helpful in special ways to the experienced Recovery-ites.
I must not forget to mention that it makes clear the fact that the method does work.
Learn to use it and your mental health will improve.

I think the book will help me. There were a lot of good ideas. The book also had jokes, proverbs and quotes which related to the concepts.
I learned the program in 2 days. I’m already able to apply the concepts to my anger and anxiety.
A lot of the ideas were new to me.
