Ways to Organize your Closet Space

Over the years, one of the most frequently abused places in the house can end up being the closet. This is because whenever there is extra stuff that we don’t really know what to do with, chances are it ends up getting thrown in the closet to deal with later. The problem comes when the time never comes to organize all of this miscellaneous clutter, making it so that you could become afraid of even opening up that closet door for fear of what could come out. When the situation reaches this point, you know that it’s probably a good time to open up those doors and spend the day organizing your closet space.

The first step to organizing all of this stuff is probably going to be to take it all out of the closet and lay it out on the floor. Chances are there will be more than a few items hidden in there that could be thrown away or donated to charity. This helps make room for all of the belongings that actually belong in there. If you primarily use your closet for clothing, then take the time to try on old clothes and get rid of items that no longer fit you properly.

There are closet organizers that have been designed specifically to help you better use your space within the closet, so that you can fit more of this miscellaneous stuff inside of it. Sometimes the problem is a lack of using the space that is already there, not that you have too many items. A shoe rack or a set of plastic cubbies can go a long way to help separate and organize anything that doesn’t seem to necessarily go with anything else. Searching online for visual examples of how to organize the closet can also be a help in making you think about the situation in a new way.

With these tools in hand, the final step is then to put back all of the stuff that remains in a new, organized fashion. You don’t have to color-coordinate all of your clothing or anything along those lines, but any degree of new order that you would like to bestow upon your closet space can make a huge difference in how you see the overall situation. Then you could try to make a conscious effort not to just throw everything in the closet again, at least at first. Updating the closet from time to time can be a fun process, however.
